Producer Bobby Bloomfield is best known as the drummer in Does It Offend You, Yeah?*, co-writing, playing on and recording their two albums as well as touring and recording constantly for the last five years.
Bobby has recently found time in his busy schedule to produce official remixes for the likes of Linkin Park, 50 Cent, The Naked & the Famous, Dan le Sac & Scrubious Pip and P. Diddy. Bloomfield has also performed on record alongside the likes of Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order), Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) and Sebasien Grainger (Death From Above 1979).
Of Silver Street Studios, Bloomfield says: “My first love was always producing bands and I can’t think of a better studio in which to do it. We spent over a year living in that room working on our second album. So if anyone knows the horrors, joys and qualities of recording in that lovely little studio, it’s us lot!”
On producing music: “I think you have to know the correct techniques of production so that you can throw that crap out of the window and start smashing all the rules. I’ve found myself recording a vocal, putting the signal through a floor full of guitar pedals and spaghettified leads, through a miniature amp in a cigarette box attached to a long vacuum cleaner tube with a plastic drinking cup perched on the end. All to get an interesting vibrating, tubey plasticky-drinking-cuppy sound. It’s so much more important to capture vibe and passion than a perfectly clean, yet soul-less recording. If that means half laughing, half crying at 3am with bits of hoover gaffa-taped to your head, then sometimes that’s the way it has to be!”
* DIOYY? have toured the word extensively on their own and as main support to The Prodigy, Linkin Park and Nine Inch Nails. Their army of fans include the Prodigy, NIN, Dave Grohl, Muse and most bizarrely, Daniel “Harry Potter” Radcliffe.
